OUR SERVICES
OC Reading Room provides a wide range of services that all start with a literacy assessment to help us determine how we can customize our programs and resources to your child's aptitude and current level of enjoyment of reading and literature.
It Starts With Your Child
LITERARY ASSESSMENT
We conduct a literacy assessment for each student to help parents understand their child's aptitude in reading and writing and to customize our services for each student.
Building Your Child's Confidence
READING SKILLS DEVELOPMENT
Based on the Literacy Assessment, we work with students in smaller focus groups to develop their reading skills. These services are primarily focused on K-2 school-age children.
Unlocking Your Child's Creative Spirit
WRITING SKILLS DEVELOPMENT
Based on the Literacy Assessment, we work with students in smaller focus groups to develop both critical thinking and writing skills while tapping their creative potential. These services are offered to K-6 school-age children.
Reading is Always More Fun With Other Children!
BOOK CLUBSÂ [TEMPORARILY CLOSED: ONLINE CLASSES AVAILABLE]
Book Clubs are our main service offerings and are offered daily as an after-school program from 3:30 to 5:00 pm. Each day, a Book Club group of 3 to 6 children of similar reading level meets with an instructor to review the weekly reading assignment, participate in group discussion about the reading assignment, and engage in additional exercises involving writing (e.g., essays, letters to parents), book-making, arts and crafts, science enrichment, and oral presentations that are based on the assignment content for that week. Upon completion of a book, a creative arts activity (e.g., crafts, skit) involving the book is delivered. OC Reading Room carefully selects literary works for each skill/age level that ensure a balance of cultural enrichment, entertainment, and literacy challenge for the students.
